Season opener in Les Houches

After a week of Christmas snow in the Aosta Valley and some great off-piste skiing, Les Houches was pretty bare by comparison but some overnight snow ahead of the BSA Grand Prix provided enough cover for racing. My first U16 race and season opener on the Kandahar Verte piste was tricky as the soft snow quickly rutted with over 60 boys and girls in U16. By run 2 the course was a roller coaster but I managed to stay in for 9th overall. Although more snow fell between races, the Anglo Scottish Cup course on Sunday rutted just as quickly and with wet snow falling I bounced out on run 2.

The snow and cloud cleared on Monday for the Anglo Scottish Cup and first GS of the season. My lack of GS practise showed with my combined runs good for 8th overall. I missed Tuesday’s BSA Grand Prix GS as we returned to the UK for two weeks ahead of the first International race of the season at Ricky v Orlickych in the Czech Republic on 24th and 25th January.
