Silver Lining at British Championships

The British Championships in Meribel on 2-5 April was – for once – held on surprisingly good late-season snow. I secured a consistent second in both the Super-G practice and race events and 18th position overall despite some heavy fog on race day.The GS on Thursday was held on the steep Stade piste and rutted quickly in the warm spring weather and the extra traffic of 36 of the faster mini’s racing in run 1. After both runs I finished in ...

GS and Slalom Wins at Scottish Championships

Poor weather conditions meant a last-minute switch to Slalom as the first event of the 2013 Courchevel Ecosse (Scottish Championships) on 31st March. In light fog and snow a small lead in both runs resulted in first place overall.Great conditions on the following day were perfect for the GS and despite placing second in run 1 my run 2 time was good to secure first place overall. A good result ahead of the British Championships and an improvement on my ...

Top 20 in Abetone

20th in GS at the FIS Pinocchio Sci event in Abetone was a good result in this 1-run race following a straddle in the slalom the previous day. This international event was attended by the majority of European skiing nations plus middle and Far East competitors.

Inter Schools Success

Despite some heavy overnight snow I won both the U14 slalom and GS at the British Inter-Schools on 18/19 March. My brother Harry came 12th (after a fall in the slalom ) and 8th respectively and George Valentine completed the GS course. Overall a good day for Richard Challoner School, we came 8th beating 26 other schools despite having a team of only three skiers.

English Alpine Triple Podium

A top three result in Super-G, GS and Slalom meant I was on the podium for all three disciplines at this year's English Alpine Championships in Bormio, Italy. In the opening Super-G the top three were separated by less than 0.8 of a second with Angus Wills and Nathan Breese taking first and second spots. My third place was good for a top 10 place overall and ahead of some solid U16 skiers. The GS was equally close, just over half ...

Czech this

As a warm-up for the Ski Inter Kriterium races in the Czech resort of Ricky v Orlickych we competed in the Czech National Ski Championships. My 10th place in GS made up for a fall in the slalom and gave me and the other GB Team skiers an opportunity to get our race skis on after much travelling and a few days training. The Inter Kriterium races started well; 16th in U14 run 1 and 13th in run 2 resulted in 15th ...

GS Bronze at Anglo-Scottish

After Christmas and a week of training at BSA, 5th January saw the start of the racing season with the BSA Grand Prix and Anglo-Scottish slalom on Grand Bois. Despite the third fastest U14 time in run 2 and an even faster run 1, a mistake on the final verticale a few gates from the line meant a disqualification on Saturday. Sunday proved equally frustrating with a straddle mid-way through both courses resulting in two DNF's.A fast GS course on ...

Hintertux camp, Solden World Cup and a lost Russian hat

Hintertux was great, good snow, good weather and I've improved my GS. We also took a trip to Solden to see the Women's World Cup GS and I got a cool Russian hat - but lost it at the airport on the way home. The hotel was OK and there is only so much schnitzel you can eat. I'm now looking for some longer GS and SG skis so if the man from Rossignol could get in touch with a ...
